Bromma is the airport closest to Stockholm and the one with the least to offer. Around eight kilometres west of the centre, in operation since 1936, and for decades the airport for Swedish domestic routes. That role vanished within a single year.
The collapse at the turn of 2024/2025
When the last major airline moved its operations to Arlanda at the turn of 2024/2025, traffic collapsed. In 2025 Bromma handled around 25,000 passengers, compared with more than a million the year before. The airport has gone from a scheduled-flight airport to an airfield for business and private flights, plus a few Swedish regional routes.
The most visible sign: the airport bus between Cityterminalen and Bromma was discontinued on 24 December 2024, after more than 30 years.
How to get there
The connection that remains is the best Bromma has ever had: the Tvärbanan tram, line 31, which stops at the airport and connects with the network at Alvik metro station. From the city centre it takes just over 20 minutes, on a regular SL ticket with no surcharge. Taxis take about as long, depending on traffic.
Will the airport stay open?
The operator and the City of Stockholm have come out in favour of closure, but the government has not yet approved it. As things stand the lease runs until the end of 2038, and an earlier closure is under negotiation. There's no formal decision.
For trip planning this changes little. If you're flying to Stockholm from abroad, you'll land at Arlanda, and domestic flights from Stockholm almost always leave from there too.
