Stockholm Arlanda Airport

Stockholm Arlanda is the only airport in the region that really lives up to the name. It lies 37 km north of the centre in the municipality of Sigtuna, handled just over 24 million passengers in 2025 and carries practically all scheduled traffic for the capital region. If you're flying to Stockholm from abroad, this is where you'll land.

Terminal 2 and Terminal 5 after the redevelopment

Arlanda is being redeveloped, and only two of its four terminals are now in operation:

• Terminal 5 is the large terminal for domestic and international flights. Its airlines include Lufthansa, Eurowings, Austrian, Swiss, SAS, Norwegian, Ryanair and Wizz Air. Terminal 4, with gates C30 to C44, is now part of it. You go through security in Terminal 5 and walk around seven minutes from there; on arrival you leave the area through customs in Terminal 5.
• Terminal 2 serves KLM, Air France, British Airways and easyJet, among others, while Finnair uses both terminals. Since 1 September 2026 the Terminal 3 security checkpoint has been closed, and a new corridor links Terminal 3 with Terminal 2. The former Terminal 3 gate area is due to reopen as part of Terminal 2 at the end of 2026, and the Terminal 2 security checkpoint is being rebuilt until early 2027.

When planning your trip, the terminal matters mainly because it determines which station you board the Arlanda Express at and where the airport bus stops. Your boarding pass shows which terminal your airline uses.

Sky City and the railway stations

Between Terminal 4 and Terminal 5 lies Sky City, a covered area with shops, restaurants and hotel entrances. Beneath it is Arlanda C station, served by the Pendeltåg, regional trains and long-distance trains.

The Arlanda Express platforms are separate: Arlanda Norra (North) beneath Terminal 5 and Arlanda Södra (South) for Terminal 2. The Express has its own non-stop line, while the other trains run on the regular railway towards Uppsala and Stockholm. Travel between Södra and Norra on the Express is free and takes one minute.

After you land

After baggage reclaim, every route into the city starts inside the building or just outside it, with signs to the train, the bus stops and the taxi ranks. Taxis wait outside the Terminal 5 arrivals hall and outside Terminal 2. Only the airport's contracted taxis wait there, and they drive to the city centre for a fixed maximum fare. Drivers who approach you in the hall are not among them.

Lounges

Two lounges can be booked regardless of airline and ticket class, both run by Plaza Premium Group:

• Aurora Lounge in Terminal 2 near Gate 65, Schengen flights only
• Norrsken Lounge in Terminal 5, mainly for Schengen flights

Entry costs from 42.93 €, is valid for three hours and includes a buffet, drinks and Wi-Fi. You get in with your boarding pass after check-in. Infants under one go free, and minors are only admitted with a paying adult.

Hotels and long waits

Several hotels are located on the airport grounds, some within walking distance of the terminals, others reachable by shuttle. They're especially worthwhile for very early morning departures: a trip into the city and back costs time and fares twice over, and a room at the airport saves both.

If you have time between two flights, the Express gets you into the city in 18 minutes each way. Add the walk to the platform and a second security check. With a layover of less than three hours it isn't worth it, and the lounge is the calmer choice. Luggage lockers are available at Terminal 2, Terminal 4, Terminal 5 and in Sky City.
